The Pinus pinea is an evergreen conifer that is part of the pine family. It has a very characteristic shape and also produces edible pine nuts. The umbrella pine stands out because of its wide, flattened crown that is effectively comparable to an umbrella shape. The branches are extended horizontally and have densely clustered needles.
The needles of the umbrella pine grow in bundles of two and are quite long, usually about 10-20 cm long. They are dark green in colour and remain on the tree all year round. Umbrella pines thrive in sunny climates and need well-drained soil. Due to its attractive shape and appearance, the umbrella pine is often used as an ornamental tree in gardens, parks and landscape designs.
