The leaves of the Japanese Maple 'Sangokaku' are palmate and striking because of their changing colour. They emerge in the spring with a light green hue, turn a darker green in the summer, and change to vibrant shades of orange and red in the fall.
One of the most remarkable features of this maple is its bark. In winter, the branches and trunks take on a striking coral or bright red colour, adding visual appeal to the garden. The 'Sangokaku' grows relatively slowly and can reach a height of about 4 to 6 meters with a broad crown.
This plant prefers a partially shaded to shady location. Direct afternoon sun can damage the delicate leaves. It thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Due to its beautiful bark and changing colours, the Japanese maple is often used as an eye-catcher in gardens, parks and landscape designs. It can also be grown in pots.
