A special cultivar of the Japanese maple known for its unique leaf texture and compact growth form. The leaves are distinguished by their curled, wavy edges. This gives them a wrinkled and pleated texture, to which it also owes its name 'Crispifolium'.
‘Shishigashira' has a compact and densely branched growth form. It grows as a shrubby tree with a more upright growth habit than some other Japanese maple varieties. When fall comes, the leaves turn vibrant shades of yellow, orange and red. This way you also get a beautiful view with this plant in the autumn.
This cultivar does best in partial shade to light shade. Too much direct sunlight can damage the leaves. Acer palmatum Crispifolium prefers well-drained, moist and acidic soil. It is often used as an ornamental tree in gardens, smaller spaces and even in pots.
